SENIOR BOOKKEEPER

ROLE
The purpose of this position is to prepare records of financial transactions for client organizations. The bookkeeper utilizes information provided by the client and available resources to meet deadlines and meet the clients' requests.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Technical
  • Organize information provided by the client & obtain additional details/information as required
  • Record source document information to accounts
  • Reconcile and balance accounts
  • Compile reports such as cash receipts and expenditures, accounts payable and receivable, profit and loss, and other items pertinent to operation of business as required
  • Prepare payroll and payroll remittances
  • Track and maintain accounts payable and receivable
  • Prepare GST remittances
  • Complete records to or through trial balance.
  • Contact and address issues with appropriate agencies (CRA, Minister of Finance, Bank, etc.)
  • Prepare deposits and cheques as required
  • Review and clean up bookkeeping records as required prior to preparation of financial statements
Client Service
  • Develops knowledge of client businesses
  • Assists clients with requests and questions
  • Address issues with clients in a constructive way
  • Provide telephone and on-site support for clients
  • Provide training for clients who maintain own bookkeeping records
  • Provide support to other staff on software and bookkeeping issues
Business Development
  • Act as an ambassador for the Firm
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of the Firm's products & services
People Development
  • Train and provide advice and assistance to more junior bookkeeping staff
  • Develop understanding of responsibility for role within work teams
  • Accept instruction and direction
  • Works well with other team members.
  • Works well independently
Firm Economics
  • Complies with Firm and Profession policies, procedures and standards
  • Uses various software and technology tools
  • Develops an understanding of Firm management processes and systems
  • Keeps supervisor informed of when work is behind or when more work is needed
  • Seeks feedback on performance
  • Develop work approaches that ensure efficient use of time
Development
  • Learn from work experiences and apply the learning to each successive assignment
  • Develop knowledge of reference materials and sources and use them
  • Participate in training programs
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS1
  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in business education with a focus on accounting.
OR
  • High School Diploma
  • Post-secondary accounting training.
  • Aptitude for accounting
OR
  • High School Diploma
  • Directly Related Work experience
  • Aptitude for accounting
